Wait...I'm the first post?!

The demonic crime Levi talks about is the SS being made up of not just Aryans. The SS had Russian, Polish, and German prisoners of war. Worst of all, Jews were a part of the SS as well. Levi feels that to make someone kill and destroy their own people is one of the worst things that someone could do. He claims that this was done because it shifted “the burden of guilt, so that they were deprived of even the solace of innocence” (53). For the Nazi’s to do this shows how evil they are. He also says that the SS had a meaning behind them. He said they meant that they are the master race and they can destroy whomever they want, but those people are no better than they are; they can destroy not only your body but your soul as well, just as we destroyed ours. Levi’s tone while he describes this crime feels like he is appalled, shocked, scared, and angry enough to kill a few Nazis himself. He portrays this act, and I agree, as one of the worst things the Nazis did to the Jews. It would be better if they just killed the Jews themselves, but making Jews kill Jews just is not right.
