MLK

If Martin Luther King was here today, he would give a speech how much progress the African Americans have made in our society. When Martin Luther King was advocating for more rights having an African American president is was certainly one of the goals that he was trying to achieve. So many people couldn’t have imagined that we be able to see someone like Barack Obama in office and now we finally are starting to break down more walls of prejudice and segregation. But I do not believe that Martin Luther King would want us to stop here. There is still plenty of other things that need to be fixed in our society as far as racial issues goes. There is still plenty of racism out there that people REFUSE to recognize. When people think of racism and discrimination all they think about is the KKK and skin head etc. but there is more underlying racism that goes on. There are still someone stereotypes that people hold and other types of racism that goes on in plays such as the work place and with the police and also with poverty. He would recognize that it is not a coincidence that most people who are poor are African Americans and nearby Philadelphia is an excellent example of that. There are still plenty of racists out there even in our CIE room there are people who unconsciously hold racists views and people just don’t want to recognize that. Martin Luther King still would fight for more and minorities can’t be satisfied yet.
